Blogs make me feel...vulnerable.

Today, I'm sitting next to my mate, Clayton. We are learning how to use Blogger together. He's my student and I'm his teacher, and we are learning together. Age is no barrier. To be honest, he's going to pick it all up waaaaaaay easier than I am.

New technology can be scary. Sharing our seeming inadequacies publicly is daunting, especially as teachers are endowed with 'the mantle of the expert,' in the traditional 20th Century teaching model. I remember sitting down in front of the computer when we first got the internet in the early 90's. Yes, I'm that old. It felt like the entire online world was watching and judging my clumsy attempts at using the internet. I felt exposed. Vulnerable. Yet, here I am again 25 years later, putting myself into a position that evokes similar emotions. I guess that's part of learning; feeling safe while feeling vulnerable.

Tamati has read what I written so far and tells me in true teenage male eloquence, "It's good, Miss." High praise. I like the validation.

I guess I'll just have to keep learning...

  1. Your blog entry, reminded me of eating a meal. That first mouthful is often made up of all the bits you choose to put on your fork (or spoon) and if you are cannie (like my husband Andrew, with his Scottish tipuna), the last forkful is made up of all the good bits you have put aside to savour later.

M'mm h'mm. New technology can be scary, but it is also fun. Last year I went for a drive in a hybrid (electric start with petrol) car and I was super impressed. Just like I am impressed with this blog entry.

Teenage male eloquence - now there's a thing to be celebrated.
